The first set of quintuplets born in Western Washington arrived Thursday morning at Swedish Medical Center.
Courtnee Stevenson, 31, of Poulsbo, gave birth to four girls and one boy.
The babies are likely to be in the neo-natal, intensive-care unit at Swedish for at least a month. Their mother was in stable condition Thursday.
Swedish officials said the births went as well as could be expected. Stevenson gave birth by Caesarean section after 31 weeks of pregnancy. Her husband, Mike Stevenson, 33, was there during the birth.
Three of the children arrived at 9:17 a.m. First came a girl named Aniston, weighing 3 pounds, 12 ounces, 15-¾ inches. Next came the only boy, Weston, weighing 3 pounds, 5 ounces, 15-¼ inches. The third child was Belle, weighing 3 pounds, 2.7 ounces, 15 inches.
A minute later, the last two children arrived: Camilee, weighing 2 pounds, 2.7 ounces, 15-¼ inches, and Scarlett, 3 pounds, 2.5 ounces, 15-¼ inches.
The Stevensons also have a 3-year-old daughter, Lilli.
Washington state's only other quintuplets were born in Spokane in 1996 to Roger and Joyce Bowman of Richland.

Haulers considergarbage-strike delay
Drivers who collect garbage in King and Snohomish counties for two different haulers will decide today whether they have made enough progress in contract talks with their employers to delay a threatened strike.
Waste Management and Teamsters Local 174 officials said Thursday negotiators narrowed their differences during two days of bargaining, and they would work into the night. Their contract expires tonight. As of Thursday night, no further bargaining sessions were scheduled.
Meanwhile, Teamsters and the region's other large garbage hauler, Allied Waste, have scheduled three bargaining sessions between next Wednesday and April 12. About 600 drivers will gather at Teamsters headquarters in Tukwila this afternoon for a meeting and rally.

Slater, 59, died March 24 of complications from Hepatitis C. A former teacher, artist, actor and gardener, Slater wrote about his experience waiting for a liver transplant and his life afterward, for two years in The Times.

Monorail car-tab taxupheld by court
The Seattle Monorail Project's car-tab tax can continue, the state Supreme Court has ruled.
In a 7-2 decision, the court found that collecting the motor-vehicle excise tax for the Project's planned 14-mile line was proper.
'We hold that the MVET is an excise tax, and that SMP has jurisdiction to impose the MVET,' the justices said in their ruling.
The case involved a lawsuit by eight Seattle vehicle owners who contended that the tax is illegal because the tax bills are based on an old state chart that assigns most used vehicles a higher value than the actual market price. Monorail project opponent Henry Aronson was part of the legal team.
The group also argued that the SMP lacked constitutional authority to levy a tax because its nine-member board is mostly appointed and not elected. The ruling's impact is short-lived because the tax will expire in August. Seattle voters in November turned down a measure that would have authorized the SMP to go forward with plans for a scaled-back line from Interbay to West Seattle.
Justices James Johnson and Richard Sanders dissented.

Girl returns to siteof family's slaying
Shasta Groene went back to the house where her family was killed last year to help celebrate what would have been the 14th birthday of her brother Slade.

Shasta, now 9, is the sole survivor of the carnage at her family's home outside Coeur d'Alene last May.
'I'm happy to be here and happy to be doing this,' Shasta told KREM-TV of Spokane in a brief interview broadcast Wednesday night. It was her first public comment since she was rescued July 2 at a Denny's restaurant in Coeur d'Alene after seven weeks of captivity.
During the interview with the TV station, Shasta made no reference to Joseph Edward Duncan III, who has been charged with binding and bludgeoning to death Brenda and Slade Groene and Mark McKenzie, 37, the mother's boyfriend, so he could kidnap Shasta and Dylan for sex.
Duncan, 42, allegedly took the younger children to a primitive campsite in Montana for seven weeks. Dylan was killed at some point. Shasta was recognized by staff and customers at the Denny's, and police arrested Duncan.
