A 74-year-old Satellite Beach man who struck by a sport utility vehicle while attempting to cross a darkened stretch of State Road A1A late Saturday, has died, Florida Highway Patrol investigators reported.

Highway Patrol troopers said the man, who is not being named by the agency, was attempting to walk on the highway in an area without a crosswalk or intersection.

The 37-year-old Melbourne man was driving north on A1A in an SUV when the collision happened.
The pedestrian was struck by the front end of the vehicle. He was treated by paramedics and then transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead by medical workers, highway patrol investigators reported.
An investigation is ongoing.
